There are a few ways to get stock quotes into Excel. For example, there are commercial add-ins that can download historical stock quotes into Excel and provide tools for analyzing the information, creating charts, and providing oodles of technical analysis functions. As of this latest article update (5/8/2020), the simplest method I know of is to use the new Stock data type, and I've created a free template to get you started.

If you want refreshable Stock quotes directly within Excel, upgrading to Office 365 may be worth it. The new Stock data type makes it a piece of cake to get stock data into Excel. To see if your version of Excel works with this new feature, download the above template. If the table of stock quotes works, and can be refreshed via Data > Refresh All, you are good to go!
This template also contains a very basic stock portfolio worksheet that uses VLOOKUP to get the current price based on the stock symbol. Note the disclaimer (not for professional or stock trading purposes or advice).
Stock Quotes in Excel via Google Sheets
The GOOGLEFINANCE function in Google Sheets allows you to get delayed quotes for stocks and mutual funds. After creating a table for the symbols that you want, you can publish the sheet as a web page (via File > Publish to the Web). You can then import the data into Excel via a web query that uses the Google Sheet as the data source. To do this, follow the steps below:
Step 1: Start with a Google Sheets Template
We've created a Google Sheets template that uses the GOOGLEFINANCE function to display stock quotes. You can make a copy of that template and update it with your own list of stocks and mutual funds.

To add a new stock symbol to the Google Sheet, type the symbol in column A, then copy the formulas from previous rows.
Step 3: Publish as a Web Page
To connect your Google Sheet document with Excel, first publish your Google Sheet document to the web. In Google Sheets, go to File > Publish to the Web.
From the dropdown box, select the StockQuotes worksheet. Then click the 'Publish' button and copy the URL that is shown highlighted, like in the screenshot below.
This will make the worksheet viewable to anybody who ends up with the link to it. For security, you should only use the Google Sheet to list the stock quotes. Super smash flash 2 v0 7 download. Don't add other personal financial data to the published sheet.
Step 4: Import into Excel via a Web Query
Now you can use the URL of the published Google Sheet to import the data into Excel. Create a new Excel worksheet, then go to Data > Get External Data > From Web.
Paste the URL you copied from Google Sheets into the Address bar, then finish the wizard.

To update the web query, go to Data > Refresh All.
With the data now in Excel, you can use VLOOKUP or INDEX/MATCH functions to reference the data in the web query. For example use a formula like =INDEX(D:D,MATCH('MSFT',B:B,0)) to get the Price for MSFT.
MSN Money Stock Quote Add-in
The old way to work with stock quotes in Excel was the free MSN Money Stock Quote Add-in for Excel versions 2002 and 2003 (and 2007). But, that add-in no longer works. The old MSN data source is no longer accessible (https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/quoteslookup). Instead, Excel uses the new Stock data types, like those included in my template above.
Historical Stock Quotes via Yahoo Finance
It is possible to create a web query to access historical stock quotes from Yahoo! Finance or some other site, but I have found this approach to be somewhat cumbersome. Perhaps a better way to do this is to download historical stock quote data into Excel from Yahoo Finance:
After you enter the symbol and click the Go button, choose the Time Period you want and then press the 'Download ' link at the top of the table. This will download the data within the entire date range as a .csv file rather than just the stock quote data shown on the page.

One of the easiest ways to create a price quote template for your business is to first start from an appropriate invoice template. For example, the first quote template on this page was created from our free invoice template. The second was created from our billing invoice template. The main differences between an invoice and a quote are explained below. So, if you need a more specific format such as a sales quote for the sale of goods or a service quote for hourly work, you could download the Sales Invoice or Service Invoice and convert them into a quote template with just a few minor changes.

This free Price Quote Template is almost exactly the same as our free invoice template, with just a few minor modifications. The new Excel 2007+ version gives you 2 different designs to choose from (on separate worksheets). The second design lets you enter unit costs and quantities.

How to Use the Price Quote Template
A price quote is almost exactly the same as an invoice except for the following 5 points:
- Expiration Date: A quote should include an 'Expiration Date' or 'Valid Until Date', after which the quote is no longer valid (meaning that the vendor is not bound to the prices quoted after that date).
- Quote #: Depending on your quote and invoice tracking system, the quote # and the associated invoice # might end up being the same thing. But on the quote, you should label it 'Quote #' to avoid confusing the customer into thinking that the quote is an invoice.
- Prepared By: Your customer will want to know who they can contact if they have questions. Unlike an invoice which is a bill for a sale that has already taken place, a price quote is a tool for completing a sale. You want your customer to know that they have a real person they can contact. You could include a 'Prepared by:' field below the address, and/or use the comment at the bottom of the template. If you were converting a sales invoice into a sales quote, use the 'Salesperson' field list who prepared the price quote.
- Terms and Conditions: Instead of comments that just specify payment requirements, you might need to spell out other terms and conditions. This could be done within the body of the invoice (underneath the description of an item) or in a separate 'Terms and Conditions' section.
- Customer Signature: A price quote often has a place for the customer to sign their name to indicate their acceptance of the quote, but not always. It is common for businesses to email their customers a quote and then ask for an indication of acceptance via email. The higher the price, the more likely that a signature is or ought to be required.
New Client Discounts
New client discounts are a common way to help entice a new customer to purchase from you. Your customer might be requesting price quotes from multiple businesses, so your 'new client discount' might be the thing that makes the sale. You can include discounts by entering the description for the discount on a separate line and entering a negative price.

You also might want to specify in an email that you will give the client an additional discount of $XX if they accept your quote by [the date]. People love discounts, and offering a discount to a client if they accept your quote with 7 days might encourage them to decide to go with your company instead of just delaying indefinitely or continuing to seek quotes from other businesses.
How to Print and Send a Price Quote
When it comes to price quotes, most interactions these days occur via email, by sending the customer a PDF of the quote. You shouldn't be sending your customer the actual Excel file that you use to create the price quote, especially if you also store a list of customers or prices within the file.
I would strongly recommend that you get a tool that will allow you to print an Excel document to a PDF. Adobe Acrobat includes a PDF print driver, but there are free tools as well.

There are great online services these days for managing sales quotes and invoices, but if you only occasionally send out quotes, a simple Excel spreadsheet should suffice.
